Big Issue seller marries woman he gave his last 50p to

A Big Issue seller who met his wife when he gave her his last 50p said it’s ‘the best money he’s ever spent’.

When Jack Richardson, 51, asked Toni Osborne for some change she broke down in tears and confessed she had no money and couldn’t even afford to pay her electricity bill.

But big-hearted Jack turned the tables on Toni and gave her 50p instead.

It proved to be the start of a very special friendship and a pivotal moment in Jack turning his life around.

Jack was given his Big Issue patch at the same spot the couple first met and Toni offered him a spare room in her home.

The pair quickly fell for each other and Jack got down on one knee on the exact spot it all began and asked Toni to be his wife in December 2015.

Although they planned a cheap registry office wedding, the pair were overwhelmed by the kindness of strangers, and they ended up celebrating in style.

Still madly in love, the couple spoke to Real Fix, a podcast about extraordinary true stories.

Toni, from Bristol said: ‘Speaking to him was the best thing I ever did.’

Jack admitted crying women are ‘like kryptonite to me’, adding: ‘I just gave her money to stop her crying, and then she started crying even more.’

Jack and Toni ended up chat every two weeks as she passed his patch for an appointment.

By Christmas 2014, the underground car park Jack had been sleeping in was about to be boarded up, so Toni kindly offered a room in her flat.

‘I wouldn’t recommend to everybody to take a homeless stranger in,’ Toni joked.

‘But I felt drawn to him. There was something about him that felt safe.’

Toni’s instincts turned out to be right, and the couple fell in love ‘insanely quickly’.

They were going to ‘grab a couple of randoms off the street as witnesses’ but when Jack’s customers found out, they clubbed together and raised everything they needed for a big white wedding.

Jack said: ‘By the end of it, we had enough left over to buy a new bed, a new cooker – and a new pair of glasses each.’

Four years on, the couple are more in love than ever.

Toni said: ‘People have said to us it’s changed their minds and attitudes towards homeless people. That’s hugely reassuring.’

Jack, who has previously lived up and down the UK, added: ‘This is the first time I’ve ever truly felt stable, grounded, rooted. Toni means so much to me – my entire life did a 180 that day.

‘I couldn’t have had any conception of that day and how much of a difference that one choice would make.’

David Arquette on taking inspiration from WWE’s Daniel Bryan

Published

Actor David Arquette may be a former WCW World Heavyweight Champion, but his time in the wrestling world back in 2000 didn’t exactly unfold as he had imagined.

But, nearly 20 years later, Arquette re-emerged on the wrestling scene, this time working on the indies and proving himself to wrestling’s most hardcore fans.

Arquette’s journey from being ridiculed in WCW to becoming an indie wrestling darling is all documented in You Cannot Kill David Arquette, which follows his wrestling redemption story from training in Mexico to even taking part in a deathmatch.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, Arquette described how seeing smaller wrestlers on the indie scene, such as current WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan, inspired him to get back into the ring.

“I got super interested when I saw people like Daniel Bryan, Adam Cole and Seth Rollins who are sort of my size,” Arquette said.

“So I was like, ‘wow, if they can be champions,’ because that was always the big gripe, that I wasn’t big enough, I wasn’t strong enough.

“So when I saw those guys that did sort of inspire me to be like, ‘wow, it would be more believable me fighting guys like that,'” he continued.

“The indie scene taking off was definitely something that I was like, ‘oh I could definitely go there,’ and it’s not like I have to be accepted by the WWE or any other organisation.”

A decade after his run-in WCW, Arquette made an appearance for WWE on an edition of Raw where he teamed with Alex Riley in a handicap match against Randy Orton.

When asked if he’d ever want to have a run in WWE or AEW, Arquette said he’d most like to take advantage of their training.

“The only reason I’d want to sort of get involved with AEW or WWE is to be able to train, like, properly go through that portion because I just never have,” he said.

And when it comes to choosing a favourite between AEW and WWE, Arquette isn’t taking sides.

“I was trying to get Cody to be part of the documentary for a long time, but it was right as they were launching AEW and he was too busy,” he said.

“I’m a huge fan of Cody’s and I’m huge fan of the Young Bucks, I’m a huge fan of all the talent over there.

“I also love WWE, but it’s a different world over there, it’s so big. But I love all the charity that WWE does.”

But if he was to go to AEW or WWE, he’d want to go with RJ City, who he is seen teaming with in the documentary and who helped him through his entire journey.

“If I were to do anything else I’d always want to do it with RJ because we have a great tag team dynamic together,” Arquette added.

“And all the sort of trouble I got into was typically when I was on my own, he knows how to sort of navigate the waters better than me.”

You Cannot Kill David Arquette is available to watch on demand now.

Gogglebox stars sing tribute to tea and stir up a major debate

Published

Gogglebox favourites Mary and Marina sang a delightful tribute to tea tonight (September 25), only to spark a major debate among those watching at home.

In tonight’s episode, the pensioners and their fellow armchair critics sat down in front of Channel 5’s Yorkshire Tea Vs PG Tips: Battle of the Brews.

Before long, Mary and Marina found themselves singing along to Binnie Hale’s 1937 banger ‘A Nice Cup of Tea’, which simultaneously filled viewers with national pride and had them jumping up to make a brew.

“Oh please get Mary and Marina to No1 with their ‘Nice Cup of Tea’ song,” tweeted one person, while another wrote: “Got emotional watching Mary and Marina sing the cup of tea song.”

However, not long after the stirring rendition, things soon got ugly as the inevitable question was asked: how do you make the perfect cup of tea?

The Gogglebox stars were horrified by some of the tips Battle of the Brews was offering up, one of which suggested that you shouldn’t fully boil the kettle, which is objectively wrong.

Soon enough, viewers took to Twitter to share their own tea-making methods and preferred choice of bag.

One person wrote: “On @C4Gogglebox they’re talking about best ways to make tea and it’s all made in a mug. I can hear my mother, 200km away, screaming at the tv to MAKE IT PROPERLY IN THE POT.”
