CBS has big changes in store for its streaming subscription service CBS All Access. Beginning in early 2021, CBS All Access will become Paramount+.

“Paramount is an iconic and storied brand beloved by consumers all over the world, and it is synonymous with quality, integrity, and world-class storytelling,” stated Bob Bakish, President and CEO, ViacomCBS. “With Paramount+, we’re excited to establish one global streaming brand in the broad-pay segment that will draw on the sheer breadth and depth of the ViacomCBS portfolio to offer an extraordinary collection of content for everyone to enjoy.”

As it heads into the rebranding transition, CBS All Access is set to expand the number of series and films it will offer to its paid customer base.

“The response from consumers in just the early weeks of the service’s expansion already illustrates the tremendous opportunity ahead of us in bringing these phenomenal ViacomCBS brands together in one premium streaming home under the new Paramount+ name,” said Marc DeBevoise, Chief Digital Officer, ViacomCBS and President & Chief Executive Officer, ViacomCBS Digital. “With the addition of even more content from across the portfolio as well as the new exclusive originals we are announcing today, we look forward to the early 2021 rebrand and bringing existing and new subscribers more of the compelling, genre-spanning live sports, breaking news and mountain of entertainment ViacomCBS has to offer.”

CBS’s rebranding announcement included details on a batch of new shows that will join the Paramount+ roster in the near future:

  • THE OFFER, a scripted limited event series from Paramount Television Studios, based on Oscar-winning producer Al Ruddy’s extraordinary, never-revealed experiences of making The Godfather. The 10-episode event series is written and executive produced by Michael Tolkin (Escape at Dannemora). Ruddy will also serve as executive producer, and Emmy-winning producer Leslie Greif (Hatfields & McCoys) will executive produce and be a writer on the series.
  • LIONESS, a spy drama created by Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone) with Sheridan, Jill Wagner, David Glasser, David Hutkin, and Bob Yari set to executive produce. Based on a real-life CIA program, LIONESS follows a young Marine recruited to befriend the daughter of a terrorist to bring the organization down from within. The series is produced by Paramount Network and 101 Studios.
  • A reimagination of the Emmy®-nominated series Behind the Music entitled MTV’s BEHIND THE MUSIC – THE TOP 40, which will unlock MTV’s vault from the past 40 years for a unique and intimate look at the 40 biggest artists of all time, through their voices and their eyes. The series will be produced by Creature Films and MTV Studios.
  • THE REAL CRIMINAL MINDS, a true crime docuseries based on the hit CBS Television series, and produced by XG Productions in association with CBS Television Studios and ABC Signature.
  • The service is also developing a revival of THE GAME as part of BET’s programming on Paramount+ from CBS Television Studios and Grammnet Productions.

Who won Love Island USA 2020?

Summer is over and it’s time for the couples to leave the Love Island USA Villa. While usually in the isolated waters of Fiji, COVID-19 forced Season 2 into a newly constructed Villa on top of the Cromwell Hotel in sunny Las Vegas.

There were 31 sexy singles from around the country quarantined for weeks to entertain us for 5 weeks of the love experiment. While some left in heartbreak, some found meaningful connections that they will continue to pursue on “the outside”.

The final elimination left four contending couples for the coveted $100,000 prize. Viewers watched the finalists go on their last uber-romantic Las Vegas date and were left to vote for their favorite to win.

It’s no surprise who won

Viewers were pleased to find out that their favorite ‘Jaleb’ aka Justine Ndiba and Caleb Corprew were voted to win the $100,000 grand prize. Social media supported Justine’s journey from being the underdog at the premiere to leaving in the most solid relationship.

Even Justine’s relationship goal role model Chrissy Teigan gave her approval for the couple.

While Jaleb had always been the favorite to win by viewers, Johnny Middlebrooks and Cely Vazquez were the first couple in the Villa to make things official by saying ‘I love you’.

Although social media loves Cely, fans can’t say the same about Johnny. As soon as the show premiered, his ex threw serious allegations about him all over social media, leaving fans with a sour taste in their mouth for the college athlete.

It’s safe to say, Johnny lost his chance at $100,000 when he engaged in a super-steamy relationship with Mercades Schell in Casa Amor. Viewers play an important part in winning the grand prize money and it’s safe to say they didn’t want Cely with Johnny.

Carrington and Laurel came in last

While Calvin Cobb and Moira Tumas had recently gotten back together, more established couple Carrington Rodriguez and Laurel Goldman came in last of the four couples.

Calvin and Moira did have instant chemistry at the beginning of the season, however, both returned to the villa after Casa Amor with new partners.

Viewers have called Carrington as ‘deep as a puddle’ and it’s safe to say he doesn’t have a lot of fans after he snubbed fan-favorite Kierstan Saulter. However, viewers do have a soft spot for his southern belle partner.

It’s safe to say that social media is very happy with their Love Island USA 2020 winners.

According to a Department of School Education Research and Training (DSERT) official, Schools in Karnataka with high students’ strength will be directed to hold classes in shifts. The DSERT is deciding the final standard operating procedure (SOP) for schools to begin lessons offline.

A concerned official said, “Schools with a higher number of students strength will be directed to follow a shift system whereas schools with lesser number of students will continue to function like before lockdown.”

Adequate safety measures will be taken

When the official was asked about how ‘High’ and ‘Low’ strength will be determined, the official said that it will be notified later with specific details, once the government allows the students to present physically in classes throughout the day.

Also, the official explained that management is asked to sanitize classrooms and other points within the school premises and the vehicles that transport students to and from the school on a daily basis. Students, teachers, and other members of the system will be asked to strictly follow the precautionary measures while physically present in class and taking part in sports activities.

No plan of reopening of schools yet

Earlier this month, The Karnataka Government reverse its decision on allowing private schools to reopen partially. Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar said, initially students of classes 9 to 12 were allowed to attend classes physically with appropriate safety measures with effective from September 21. However, this decision was reversed taking into account of daily rise in the Coronavirus cases in the state.

Although the decision is still pending on partial reopening of the schools, DSERT and top officials of the education department are expected to organize a meeting with representatives of private schools managements, members of school development and monitoring committees (SDMCs), teachers, parents, and other stakeholders to discuss the ways by which they can implement the safety measures effectively.

On Tuesday, Karnataka Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar clarified that the government has to decide on the reopening of the schools and PU colleges in the states yet. The decision on the same will be taken after he returns to Bengaluru from Bidar.

Mariah Carey’s secret indie rock album was ‘for laughs’ and there’s a music video hidden away somewhere

Mariah Carey’s secret indie rock album she made 25 years ago was done ‘for laughs’ and she even filmed a music video.

The singer wanted to have a crack at that type of music because it was ‘popular at the time’.

She and the band she was working with decided to hop in the studio where she recorded ‘nonsense’ to see what it would sound like.

And the Honey singer even filmed a music video to go with it.

Speaking to Stephen Colbert on The Late Show, Mariah explained: ‘I did it for laughs. [It] was such a popular genre at the time. I was like, “Well, I have a full band here. Let’s just do something, and I’ll just make up some nonsense and sing it”.’

While she tried to get the finished album released, her label apparently wasn’t keen on the idea and it was scrapped (boo).

‘I did a video, and I want it to be released so bad. My plan was I was going to dress up in a costume and make a video and be unrecognisable and just release it and see what happened’, she went on.

‘But that got stifled by certain people at the label so I kind of had to abandon the project, but I’m kind of happy that at this moment that the fans are actually hearing it.’

The star revealed the secret music project, released as the band Chick for their 1995 album Someone’s Ugly Daughter, in her new book The Meaning Of Mariah.

She explains: ‘I’d bring my little alt-rock song to the band and hum a silly guitar riff. They would pick it up and we would record it immediately. It was irreverent, raw, and urgent, and the band got into it. I actually started to love some of the songs. I would fully commit to my character.

‘I was playing with the style of the breezy-grunge, punk-light white female singers who were popular at the time. You know the ones who seemed to be so carefree with their feelings and their image. They could be angry, angsty, and messy, with old shoes, wrinkled slips, and unruly eyebrows, while every move I made was so calculated and manicured.’

On Twitter she elaborated further saying it got her through some dark days.

‘S/O to my friend Clarissa who performs the lead w/ me as a hidden layer #Chick#TMOMC,’ she added.

A representative for the star told Pitchfork that Carey ‘wrote, produced, and sang background vocals on every song from Chick’s album.’
