TV Ratings: Sunday Night Football Steady, Simpsons Dominates the Rest

Published

on

By

In the latest TV ratings, NBC Sunday Night Football‘s Packers/Saints match-up averaged 14.9 million total viewers (up 5 percent from last week’s fast nationals) along with a 4.4 demo rating.

Among Sunday’s non-sports fare, Fox’s The Simpsons led the pack with 5.5 million total viewers and a 2.0 demo rating, which is on par with last year’s first episode buoyed by an NFL lead-in.  Bless the Harts returned to 2.2 mil/0.8, followed by Bob’s Burgers‘ 1.8 mil/0.7 and Family Guy‘s 1.7 mil/0.7.

Elsewhere….

CBS | Pending adjustment due to NFL overrun, Monday-bound Big Brother (4.1 mil/0.9) and Love Island (1.8 mil/0.4) each dipped week-to-week.

ABC | That $ellebrity thing did 1.9 mil and a 0.3.

THE CW | Night 1 of the iHeartRadio Music Festival drew 475,000 total viewers and a 0.05 demo rating.

The Live+Same Day numbers reported in our ratings column do not reflect a show’s overall performance, given the increased use of delayed playback via DVR and streaming platforms, plus out-of-home viewing. These numbers (Nielsen fast nationals, unless denoted as finals) instead aim to simply illustrate trends or superlatives. Warning: Contents may be hot!

Not only will Batwoman season two introduce a new, well, Batwoman, the DC TV series is also welcoming a series of unseen villains for Ryan Wilder to contend with.

Confirmed for Batwoman ahead of its return in January is Jessica Jones alum Leah Gibson, who will play a henchwomen of newly-confirmed villain Safiyah Sohail.

According to Deadline, Leah – who played Inez in the second season of Marvel’s Jessica Jones – will play Tatiana (The Whisper), a skilled assassin who is “unflappable and cold as ice in the face of danger”.

Alongside newcomer Nathan Owens, who will take on the role of Ocean, Leah’s character will introduce an interesting dynamic. The Whisper is “still harbouring feelings for her powerful boss”.

Speaking of said “powerful boss”, Batwoman‘s newest adversary Safiyah Sohail will be portrayed by former EastEnders star Shivaani Ghai, who soap fans will remember as Ayesha Rana.

So far, Safiyah has had a large off-screen presence in the Arrowverse but has yet to be seen in Gotham City. Until now, of course.

Meanwhile, in other Batwoman news, series boss Caroline Drier recently reassured fans that the show will address Ruby Rose’s departure as Kate Kane.

“We have two major stories this season as we come into season two,” she explained at the DC FanDome event.

“The first one is: Where is Kate? What happened to Kate? Is she alive? Is she dead? Is she missing? Is she on the run? Is she held captive? Is she lost?”

Batwoman will return for season 2 on The CW in the US. E4 airs the series in the UK.
