Inside Soap Awards reveals full longlist for 2020’s ceremony

Published

on

Inside Soap has released its full longlist of nominees for the 2020 Inside Soap Awards, which will take place as a virtual ceremony in November.

Coronation Street, EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks, as well as medical dramas Casualty and Holby City and daytime soaps Doctors, Home and Away and Neighbours, plus their stars will be competing for 13 coveted trophies.

Digital Spy has already exclusively revealed the Best Actress nominees, which include Coronation Street‘s Shelley King (Yasmeen Metcalfe) and Emmerdale‘s Emma Atkins (Charity Dingle), and the Best Partnership nominees, which feature EastEnders‘ Max Bowden (Ben Mitchell) and Tony Clay (Callum Highway) and Hollyoaks‘ Imran Adams (Mitchell Deveraux) and Ross Adams (Scott Drinkwell).

There is a brand new, special accolade this year for ‘Feel-Good Moment’ too, which features scenes including Walford celebrating Pride in EastEnders and Sam and Lydia Dingle’s wedding in Emmerdale.

The winners are chosen by viewers, with fans able to vote for their favourites over the next five weeks. The winners will then be announced at a virtual ceremony, which will be streamed online, on Monday, November 16.

“Soaps have been a real source of comfort to people when the rest of the world has seemed strange and scary this year,” said Steven Murphy, the editor of Inside Soap magazine. “To have our favourite characters in our living room gave us a sense of normality, so we thought it was vital we recognised the huge role soaps have played in our lives by continuing our popular awards through a virtual ceremony.”

“It’s also important to remember soaps aren’t all shock twists and big explosions of drama,” he added. “They’re life-affirming, and often remind us that there’s always hope, so we wanted to introduce the ‘Feel-Good Moment’ accolade to find out what gave the public a rosy glow in these rather uncomfortable times.”

Breaking! Rakul Preet, Deepika Padukone and two other leading actresses summoned by NCB in drug case

Published

By

In a major new development to the drugs probe into Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide investigation, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) have summoned Rakul Preet Singh, Deepika Padukone, Sara Ali Khan, and Shraddha Kapoor, all of whom have been asked to appear for interrogation in the next three days.

According to the officials in the anti-drugs agency, Deepika Padukone has been summoned on Friday and Rakul Preet Singh tomorrow. Sara Ali Khan and Shraddha Kapoor will be questioned on Saturday, while fashion designer Simone Khambatta will be questioned tomorrow as well. Based on a case filed by the NCB with WhatsApp messages retrieved from Sushant’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty’s mobile phone, Deepika Padukone’s business manager Karishma Prakash will also be questioned on Friday in connection to the case. Rhea and her brother Showik were arrested on September 9 by the Narcotics Control Bureau in similar charges. They filed an application in the Bombay High Court seeking bail after the Special Court extended her judicial custody till October 6. Recently, a few mobile conversations involving drugs came under the NCB’s scrutiny and while the initials of the individuals ‘D’ and ‘K’ were revealed initially, the people were then allegedly identified as Deepika Padukone and her manager Karishma Prakash, who is employed at the Kwan Talent Management Agency.

The NCB has arrested more than 12 people so far in connection with the drug angle in Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide. The actor was found hanging in his residence in Mumbai’s Bandra on June 14.

Sadda Haq Actor Harshita Gaur gears up for the release of Mirzapur Season 2

Published

on

By

Actor Harshita Shekhar Gaur who rose to fame from the youth centric show, Sadda Haq and one of the biggest web shows of 2019- Mirzapur, is all set to enthral the audience with the season 2 of Mirzapur, slated to stream on Amazon Prime. An action crime thriller web series, Gaur will be seen reprising the role of Dimpy Pandit which is one of the central characters. After a successful maiden innings, the 2nd season of Mirzapur is ready to swoon viewers with its thrilling storyline.

Speaking about her character, actor Hashita Shekhar Gaur stated, “Dimpy is a classic girl next door character- sweet, pretty, warm, some who anyone can relate with very easily. She hails form a Pandit family and attaches a lot of importance to family values. She loves her brothers and acts as a bridge between them and her father. The character has a huge transition from Season 1 to 2, there is more depth on the character. I believe the audiences will enjoy Dimpy’s character graph.” She added, “Bagging Mirzapur is by itself an interesting story. I had initially refused the role but one meeting with the directors my perception took a 180-degree turn. Coming from a TV background my idea of a lead role was almost set in stone, Mirzapur and Dimpy introduced be to a different format of narrative and that has added a different dimension to my craft. One thing I can safely say is that all the characters that I have played till date have been significant and relevant to the storyline.”

Harshita pursued electronics and communication engineering but soon followed her dreams to enter showbiz. She honed her skills with multiple acting courses and workshops and maintains that a certain session with Atul Mongia has transformed her as an actor and a person.

Asked about the most debated topic in B-town these days- “Nepotism”, the svelte actress signed off by saying, “The Nepotism debate is useless, as it happens everywhere. Even a clerk would feel that his son would inherit his job especially if it is a government one. When I wanted to be an actor, my parents never said yes please drop what you’re doing and go become an actor. My parents are doctors and they don’t know anybody from the industry, they would have ideally wanted me to be a doctor, since it would have been easier. Whether I would have proven to be a good doctor or not that would come later, they would have tried to fit me in somewhere. When I came here, I was fully aware that I don’t know anyone and my peers from film background will have better opportunities but I still came here anyway because this is my passion. I agree some people have personal experiences that are bitter. But I don’t think it’s right to take the whole industry down and discourage people like me or others who want to come and work and fulfill their dreams. Every profession has its pros and cons. You can’t keep discouraging people or put the whole industry in bad light just because you had a negative experience”.
