TikTokers think ‘alien invasion’ happened overnight after FYP gets flooded with UFO videos

Published

on

There has been an apparent recent surge in TikTok videos featuring “UFO sightings,” so much so that users are even making videos about the videos’ prevalence on the platform.

User @withinthewild’s video, which seemed to show up on users’ For You pages Tuesday, features @withinthewild and their companions standing in the backyard of a home, pointing up at mysterious “sparkly diamonds” in the sky. The user chalked up the “UFO sighting” to it being the year 2020.

At least two videos feature UFO sightings in Boston, one showing a slew of moving multicolored lights. “One of those UFOs landed next to my job … Boston about to be hit by something big. Please be careful,” a user cautioned in their video.

In a different video filmed in an unidentified location, a TikToker shouts “What is that!” several times while an object with three lights hovers above them.

In another video, a “UFO” is seen hovering above a highway in New Jersey. The sighting seemingly brought cars to a halt on the side of the road. “Yo, look at that,” the TikToker says, as they and other spectators record on their cellphones.

The sightings in New Jersey, however, were not of a UFO but of a Goodyear Blimp, according to multiple reports. The blimp was reportedly flown over the MetLife Stadium, where the game between the Pittsburg Steelers and New York Giants was taking place.

The videos’ pervasiveness in users’ For You pages on Tuesday led many to think there was an “alien invasion” across the country overnight. Others are making their own compilation videos featuring all of the sightings. Users even carried their speculation over to Twitter. “Okay TikTok is flooded with recent UFO videos OVERNIGHT. I’m not saying anything, but watch for aliens,” one Twitter user wrote.

All of the videos were posted in September, some as recent as Monday. Either more users are posting their UFO sighting videos, or more of these types of videos are making their way to the platform’s For You page, where the content would be viewed by the masses and make it seem as if there has been a recent surge in UFO sightings. The Daily Dot has reached out to TikTok.

Everything to know about ‘The Voice’ Season 19

Published

on

By

The coronavirus pandemic dealt a major blow to “The Voice” last spring when it had to film its Season 18 live shows from the homes of the coaches and contestants due to safety concerns. Country coach Blake Shelton ended up winning that memorable installment thanks to singing preacher Todd Tilghman. Fast-forward to today, and even though Covid-19 is still a major hurdle in the United States, NBC has slotted the reality TV singing sensation on its fall schedule for Mondays and Tuesdays.

Here’s everything to know so far about “The Voice” Season 19. Bookmark this page as we’ll be updating when new information is revealed.

Premiere date announced
Mark your calendars for Monday, October 19 as that’s when the Emmy-winning series will return to NBC’s fall lineup. Yes, it may be a bit later than usual (because of the coronavirus), but that’s to be expected due to production being delayed.

The trio has returned
There’s good news for fans of Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson and John Legend, as the fun trio has returned to their big red chairs for this Fall 2020 cycle. This marks Blake’s 19th season as coach, Kelly’s sixth and John’s fourth. In terms of their individual coaching track records, Blake’s artists have prevailed a leading seven times, while Kelly took three championships and John claimed victory a single time. See “The Voice” winners list.

Welcome back, Gwen
The fourth chair once again goes to Gwen Stefani, marking her fifth time as a coach after Seasons 7, 9, 12 and 17. Gwen’s return means we have the exact same judging panel as Season 17 (see photo above). Blake’s girlfriend has a lot to prove this year as she has yet to mentor an artist all the way to the finish line. The closest she came was with Jeffery Austin (Season 9) and Rose Short (Season 17), who both came in fourth place.

Bon voyage, Nick
Nick Jonas initially joined up with the long-running program during the 18th cycle, but did not return for this 19th installment due to his busy schedule. However, just because someone is in one year and out the next doesn’t rule out the option of them returning in the future. For example, Jennifer Hudson coached Season 13, sat out Season 14, then returned for Season 15. Same with Miley Cyrus, who coached Season 11, skipped season 12, then came back for Season 13. Maybe we’ll see Nick return to “The Voice” in the future?

Blind auditions are a go
Everybody’s favorite round, the blind auditions, filmed August 3-7 at Universal Studios Hollywood. It’s believed that the coaches and artists all appeared in studio in accordance with health regulations. One thing we know for sure is that there was no live audience due to safety concerns. However, fans could sign up to be in the “digital audience” via ticketing website 1iota.com.

Pre-auditions online
Prior to the blind auditions, contestants first had to audition remotely by submitting their information online. A select number of these hopeful singers received callbacks from producers. It’s assumed that they traveled to Los Angeles weeks in advance of their auditions in order to quarantine for the CDC-recommended time period of 14 days.

Polo G – “Epidemic”

Published

By

The young Chicago star Polo G is a master of depressive melodic rap music, and he’s been on a major career upswing lately. After making one of the best rap albums of 2020 with his platinum debut Die A Legend, Polo came out with the sophomore LP THE GOAT earlier this year. It’s already gold, and Polo might be the biggest star among this year’s XXL Freshman class. Today, he’s come out with a new standalone single called “Epidemic,” and it’s a good one.

“Epidemic” has nothing to do with COVID-19. Instead, Polo sing-raps sadly about romantic travails and street tensions over a pretty, piano-based beat from producers Karltin Bankz, LondnBlue, Dmac and Tahj Money. (I don’t know why a song this spare needed four producers, but that’s what happened.) Polo manages to sound both graceful and full of despair: “I’m so sick of farewells and RIPs.”

“Epidemic” has a video from regular Polo G collaborator Ryan Lynch, and it finds Polo and friends spending time on boats and ATVs. It doesn’t look like the video for a sad song, but Polo has the presence to pull it off. Check it out below.

Also, if you like Polo G, you should really hear him going nuts on fellow young Chicago rapper BigKayBeezy’s recent track “Backpack 2.0.” Here’s that video:
