The Wheel of Time actress Sophie Okonedo lands lead role in Britannia

Academy Award-nominated actress Sophie Okonedo has landed a lead role in season 3 of Britannia, a historical drama about the Roman invasion of Britian.

Per SKY, Academy Award-nominated actress Sophie Okonedo  (Ratched, Death on the Nile) has landed a key role in season 3 of Britannia, SKY’s historical drama about Rome’s invasion of Britain. Starring The Walking Dead’s David Morrissey as General Aulus, Okonedo will play the general’s Roman wife, Hemple, newly arrived in Britannia “to find out why her husband has failed with Lokka’s mission to capture the chosen one, Cait (Eleanor Worthington Cox). If he isn’t up to the job, she certainly is.”

Judging by the image that came with this release, Hemple is already having a good time:

Okonedo, who has also been recently cast as Siuan Sanche on Amazon’s The Wheel of Time adaptation, sounds psyched to be a part of the series. “I’m so glad to be plunged into the weird and wonderful world of Britannia. I was already a fan of the show and its writers Jez and Tom Butterworth, so I jumped for joy when they offered me the wonderful character of Hemple. Without giving too much away I’ll just say this woman has a huge appetite…”

That appetite might include a conflict with her husband’s main ally on the island, the beautiful Celtic queen Amena, played by Annabel Scholey.

“Sophie is one of the UK’s greatest actors and we all feel very privileged to have her play our new and particularly malevolent force for series three,” said co-showrunner James Richardson. “She is an actor with an enormous range and manages to make you laugh whilst being completely terrifying. A perfect fit for Britannia! We feel very fortunate to be able to continue making such an ambitious show about a time when everything changes.”

Created by brothers Jez and Tom Butterworth, along with Richardson, Britannia has been making a name for itself on Sky and NOW TV in the UK, where you can currently watch seasons 1 and 2. Stateside, you can see it on Epic or Amazon.

Season 3 doesn’t have a release date, although it’s expected sometime in 2021.

Pretty Little Liars: HBO Max Orders ‘Horror-Tinged’ Reboot — Watch Teaser

The recently announced Pretty Little Liars reboot is bypassing Freeform and going straight (to series) at HBO Max.

The upstart streamer has officially given a green light to the project, titled Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, via a 10-episode order. The pickup comes three years after PLL wrapped its seven-season run on Freeform.

As previously reported, Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is shepherding the project, which is being billed as an alternate, “horror-tinged, coming-of-rage‘ version of PLL “set miles away from Rosewood” in a brand new town, with a new crop of characters.

“Twenty years ago, a series of tragic events almost ripped the blue-collar town of Millwood apart,” reads the official show description. “Now, in the present day, a group of disparate teen girls — a brand-new set of Little Liars — find themselves tormented by an unknown Assailant and made to pay for the secret sin their parents committed two decades ago. as well as their own.”

Aguirre-Sacasa’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina collaborator Lindsay Calhoon Bring will serve as writer and co-EP on PLL: Original Sin. In a statement, the duo said, “We’re such huge fans of what I. Marlene King and her iconic cast created, we knew that we had to treat the original series as canon and do something different. So we’re leaning into the suspense and horror in this reboot, which hopefully will honor what the fans loved about the hit series, while weaving in new, unexpected elements.”

The original PLL, created by Marlene King, starred Lucy Hale, Ashley Benson, Shay Mitchell, Troian Bellisario and Sasha Pieterse as a group of Pennsylvania teenagers being hunted — largely via text message — by a mysterious figure known simply as “A.” (And eventually as “AD” in the show’s later seasons.) The series based on young-adult books written by Sara Shepard.

In addition to airing for seven successful seasons on ABC Family/Freeform (2010–2017), Pretty Little Liars also birthed two short-lived spinoffs — Ravenswood, which aired from 2013 to 2014, and Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists, which aired from March to May of 2019.
