Mickey Guyton On Representing for ‘Other Women of Colour’ With Powerful ACM Awards Performance

Published

on

While speaking with ET’s Rachel Smith after the show, Guyton said she was “overwhelmed.” “I’m so thankful to the ACMs and to CBS for giving me this opportunity and for believing in me,” she shared. “I was supposed to sing back in April, and they still had me here, and I’m just so honoured.”

“That phrase, ‘You see it, you can be it’ really rings true, and I just – standing here for other women of colour, it means to the world to me,” she added. “That’s why I’m here.”

“What Are You Gonna Tell Her?” is a heartfelt tribute to the innocence of childhood and a call to action about racism, sexism, abuse and more. Keith Urban accompanied Guyton on stage during Wednesday’s performance, playing the piano. Guyton concluded her performance by sweetly holding her baby bump and said there’s “a lot of things,” she would tell her future bundle-of-joy about their special moment on stage.

Kehlani And Russ Contemplate A Second Try At Love In Their ‘Take You Back’ Video

Published

Kehlani‘s stellar year continues with a new video besides Russ. The Oakland singer impressed listeners, as she’s done for her entire career, with her phenomenal It Was Good Until It Wasn’t album. Its release has been supported by equally impressive and eye-catching videos for songs like “Toxic,” “F&MU,” and “Can I.”

Lending her vocals to fellow west coaster Russ, the two artists connect as two lovebirds attempting to make a broken relationship whole again for their “Take You Back” collaboration. Residing at edge of the old-style balconies to their respective homes, Russ begins the song by apologizing for his wrongs and forgiving Kehlani for her wrongs in their relationship before begging return so their relationship can continue.

“Young and in love, so we prone to mistakes /I ain’t gon’ front like I know what it takes,” he sings adding, “‘Cause I f*cked up, then you f*cked up / Now it’s f*cked up, goddamn.”

Now that he’s said what he needed to say, Kehlani steps in to discuss her own doubts about their relationship’s potential if they do decide to start it again. “Take you back, why should I take you back?” she questions while reminding him in the next line that it was, in fact, Russ who brought the relationship to an end. “You the one that f*cked this up, yeah / You the one that turned this out.”

However, Kehlani gives in to Russ’ requests as they reunite as one while the world crumbles and burns around them. Watch the “Take You Back” video above.

Kehlani is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Karen boasts about not vaccinating her kid on Facebook—her kid’s pediatrician calls her out for lying

Published

Karen the faux anti-vaxxer was called out on Facebook by her son’s pediatric nurse for lying about refusing to get him vaccinated.

In the post, Karen recounts taking her son in for a five-year check-up. Everything was supposedly fine and dandy until the nurse came in to give him a vaccine booster.

“I told her why I’d decided to decline it and she explained that it was my right to do so,” the woman writes.

Karen claims the nurse thanked her for taking a stand and told her “how much it pains her to have to give vaccines to uniformed families who don’t know they have a right to decline.”

The mother also says her son thanked her on the way home after she told him why she didn’t let him get the vaccine.

As it turns out, that was all an apparent lie.

Karen seemingly forgot she had the nurse as a friend on Facebook. And since she posted the fib on her wall rather than in a private group, the pediatric nurse took the opportunity to set the record straight in the comments.

“Believe it or not it’s completely legal for me to publicly state that I absolutely did not say that and for the record neither did you. It’s also not a HIPAA violation for me to say that I gave your son a shiny sticker at the end of the appointment for being brave, so people who read this post can take what they will from that,” the nurse wrote.

Though the nurse isn’t saying it outright as to not violate privacy laws, it seems they’re strongly hinting that the woman’s son did in fact get a vaccine that day.

The Facebook exchange was posted on multiple Reddit threads and has been seen by more than 100,000 people—many of whom expressed confusion as to why the mom would pretend to be an anti-vaxxer.

“This is super interesting that an anti-vaxxer would still get their children vaccinated. It means they probably do actually believe the science and want the best for their children but find something of value in the anti-vaxxer community,” wrote Reddit user u/TheMattHatter91.
