HBO renews NXIVM docuseries ‘The Vow’ for another season

Published

on

HBO isn’t done exploring the NXIVM cult just yet. The cabler is moving forward with The Vow Season 2.

More episodes of The Vow are coming to HBO. The premium cable service aims to further explore the NXIVM cult and its leader Keith Raniere in The Vow Season 2, Decider reported.

The first season has thoroughly inspected the way the cult started and why so many people were attracted to the group in the first place. Former members like Sarah Edmonton and Mark Vicente took center-stage to discuss the inner workings of the group.

The first season of The Vow, created by award-winning documentary filmmakers Jehane Noujaim and Karim Amer, has done tremendously well for HBO. Most critics agree that it’s a well-done docuseries that gets to the heart of NXIVM, yet remains respectful of the victims without falling prey to the more salacious aspects of the story.

That said, some of the few criticisms are about The Vow’s pacing. Many have wondered if it could have cut some of the superfluous content and reduced its episode count to half. It begs the question of whether The Vow really needs a second season, especially with so much other NXIVM content already out there as it is.

What will The Vow Season 2 be about?

According to the press release from HBO and Decider, the second season will focus more on Raniere himself and his innermost circle. It will also follow the trial against Raniere, who was charged with forced labor conspiracy, identity theft, production and possession of child pornography, racketeering, and sex trafficking in 2019. He is currently awaiting sentencing.

“Part Two follows the legal and emotional journeys of the group’s founders, supporters and defectors as new evidence and stunning revelations come to light while federal prosecutors and defense attorneys battle for opposing views of justice in a case caught in the national spotlight,” says the press release.

For more on the NXIVM cult, don’t miss the season finale of The Vow Season 1 on HBO this Sunday. Starz is also debuting its own docuseries, Seduced: Inside the NXIVM Cult, with a focus on India Oxenburg’s story this Sunday as well.

Why an ‘active’ approach to risk modelling is key to navigating markets today

Published

Whether investors are aiming for a cautious approach or a riskier investment profile with the potential for higher returns, Architas’ Blended Fund range is designed to match a range of investor risk appetites. And like many asset managers, Architas predominantly uses two approaches to define asset allocation within the five risk bands used in the Blended Range – strategic and tactical.

Whilst risk model provider EValue’s quantitative approach to asset allocation takes into account the long-term performance of different asset classes and the likely future performance given current valuations, along with long-term measures of volatility and correlations with other asset classes. Yet as with most systems of its kinds, EValue focuses on the long term; it is unable to analyse short-term market movements and fluctuations. So whilst it would have seen that in Q1 2020 markets fell by a record percentage before rebounding, it will not be able to factor in the cost of the coronavirus and lockdown and its impact on markets. Similarly, it is not able to consider ongoing Brexit woes, geo-political trade wars or the outcome of the US election in 2020.
