Update: David Tennant’s West End return in Good has been rescheduled for a limited run at the Harold Pinter Theatre in central London.

The play was originally scheduled to open at the Playhouse in October 2020, but when theatres shut down across the country following the UK lockdown, this meant a delay.

The rescheduled run will open on April 21, 2021 running until July 17, 2021, with Call the Midwife‘s Fenella Woolgar and Quiz‘s Elliot Levey joining Tennant in the cast as Helen and Maurice respectively.

If you bought a ticket for the originally-planned Playhouse run, you can find useful info here, including details on how to transfer your booking, or request a refund, depending on what you’d like to do.

For those of you waiting for the general sale for Good‘s new dates, that starts on Monday, October 19 at 10am. Tickets will be available via ATG.

Original story: Doctor Who. Broadchurch. Jessica Jones. Deadwater Fell. Good Omens. David Tennant’s impeccable list of TV credits speaks for itself.

Now, one of the screen’s biggest stars is coming back to the West End stage for the first time in a good few years.

David will be reviving a play called Good at the Playhouse in central London. Olivier Award winner Dominic Cooke, who also directed On Chesil Beach, will direct its limited, 10-week run.

Originally written by CP Taylor for the Royal Shakespeare Company, Good premiered in 1981 at the Donmar Warehouse.

Tickets Good tickets (opens October 6, 2020)

Good is the story of how John Halder, a liberal-minded academic, is gradually radicalised by the Nazis in pre-World War II Germany. Yet Halder still continues to see himself as a ‘good man’, even as he falls further and further into fascism and becomes directly involved in many of the Nazis’ horrific crimes against humanity.

A 1999 revival of the play starred Charles Dance, and in 2008, it was made into a movie starring Viggo Mortensen, Jason Isaacs and Jodie Whittaker.

“Dominic is one of the UK’s all-time great theatre directors,” said David. “I am really inspired and delighted to finally get a chance to work with him, and especially on a wonderful play like CP Taylor’s Good – a fantastic bit of writing that is more pertinent and resonant now than it has ever been.”

Highlighting Good‘s continued relevance today, Dominic told The Guardian:“It is very current. It shows how people can blur reality, turn away from difficult moments and allow themselves to become inveigled into hideous situations.

“We are in danger of that happening now. Not just politically but in terms of the environment, how we seem to collectively be able to ignore the evidence in front of us. It is a play really about denial.”

Tickets will go on sale at 12 noon today (Tuesday, February 11) via ATG and LOVEtheatre, and performances start on October 6, 2020.

Before finding fame on TV, David had a long association with the Royal Shakespeare Company, including a critically-acclaimed portrayal of Hamlet back in 2008 (remember when he announced he was leaving Doctor Who live at the NTAs during the interval of one of those shows?).

Although he did briefly reprise his role as the Tenth Doctor on stage at The O2 in 2018, David was last in the West End for Don Juan in Soho at Wyndham’s Theatre in 2017, winning his fourth WhatsOnStage Award for Best Actor in a Play.

Currently hosting James McAvoy in a 21st-century update on Cyrano de Bergerac, the Playhouse will also see big-name stars including Jessica Chastain and Emilia Clarke gracing its stage for limited-run shows before the summer’s out.

Digital Spy can give an exclusive first look at the new sequence in our video at the top of the page.

The tweaked titles see Don’s version of Pierce spending time outside the local café with his wife Chloe (April Rose Pengilly) and son Hendrix (Benny Turland).

This takes the place of a similar shot from the old titles, which saw Tim’s version of Pierce in the same scenario.

Neighbours fans in Australia will see the new titles later this week, while they air on UK screens in November.

The show announced Pierce’s recast in August after Tim had to bow out earlier than planned.

Don will be playing Pierce for a few weeks, finishing off the character’s exit storyline.

Neighbours airs weekdays at 1.45pm and 5.30pm on Channel 5 (UK) and 6.30pm on 10 Peach (Australia).
