Jerry Jones wants Dallas Cowboys stadium to host next Conor McGregor fight

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager, Jerry Jones, is open to hosting Conor McGregor’s return to the UFC at AT&T Stadium.

Conor McGregor’s return to MMA is starting to gain clarity, as he verbally agreed to a rematch with Dustin Poirier for Jan. 23, 2021. The two had sparred back and forth on social media before finally settling on an agreement, though no formal announcement from the UFC has been made.

According to recent developments from Insider, Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager, Jerry Jones, is open to hosting the bout at his well-renowned AT&T Stadium, which has backdropped numerous concerts and boxing matches in the past. During the pandemic, the venue has allowed fans to attend Cowboys home games at limited capacity, while other NFL stadiums have prohibited fans from attending altogether.

Jones spoke highly of the former UFC two-weight world champion in a recent interview with 105.3 The Fan in Dallas.

“I’m a real admirer of his. He’s one of the neatest individuals I think I’ve met, period,” Jones said.

The venue holds 80,000 people, which would break the UFC’s North American attendance record if the fight takes place there are full capacity. The bout would be contested out of their primary weight classes at lightweight, according to a statement from McGregor’s long-time SBG Ireland coach, John Kavanaugh. Kavanaugh hinted that the bout would actually take place at welterweight, which McGregor has competed under on three separate occasions during his career.

The UFC will attempt to hold fans at the Flash Forum in Abu Dhabi for UFC 254

There’s a chance that the UFC and its partners in Abu Dhabi could execute a plan that would bring a limited capacity crowd to Abu Dhabi for UFC 254 next Saturday, though there are health and safety concerns about separating fans and essential staff personnel at the arena.

A McGregor return could propel the UFC to kick-off 2021 with a bang, literally and figuratively.

UFC 254: Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Justin Gaethje fight card, live stream, TV info and more

On Oct. 24, “The Eagle” lands on Fight Island when the undefeated and undisputed lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov (28-0), returns to defend his title against the interim champion and the king of violence, Justin Gaethje (22-2),  in the main event of UFC 254. With a recent run of four consecutive knockouts, many believe Gaethje will be able to offer Nurmagomedov and his perfect record the toughest test yet.

The co-main event pits former champion and No. 1 ranked middleweight Robert Whittaker (21-5) against No. 3 ranked Jared Cannonier (13-4) in a matchup that is likely to produce the next challenger for the 185-pound strap. Also, light heavyweights look to finally settle the beef when No. 11 ranked Magomed Ankalaev (13-1) battles Ion Cutelaba (15-5) in a rematch of their controversial first meeting.
